Let me begin by highlighting the positives. The staff is super friendly and the A5 Wagyu was cooked well. No complaints about the food. The filet was solid and the sirloin was marbled well. It’s easy to tell that the wagyu is A5. They claim that it is from Kobe and I have no reason to doubt it, although it didn’t taste any different from any other A5 wagyu that I’ve had in the past.
However, this is very much a tourist trap type of place. The first red flag was that they were calling folks in. I would not have gone in if my colleague hadn’t reserved a table. The staff is friendly but over the top and loud. My colleague and I shared two cuts (220g each) of beef, got one glass of house wine each, and shared a fried rice. The total came out to be over ¥60,000 (over US $440). That’s absurd. The worst part was that while we went to pay, we were told that in this restaurant, tips were the norm, and they had three categories 18% and above. While tipping is the norm in several countries, I know for a fact it is not the case in Japan. And in fact it’s frowned upon. We ended up giving them an 18% tip, but did not appreciate the way this was done. Another pressure tactic is that they want you to submit a google review on the spot. Maybe this is the reason why their average review is so high. I would not dine here again.
